Mentoring

"Every child deserves a champion - an adult who never gives up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be." Rita F. Pierson

Mentoring

T.R.A.C.life

T.R.A.C.life is a mentoring program specifically supporting a local Teen Reach Adventure Camp. Mentoring provides interested campers the opportunity for campers to continue a year long relationship with a trusted and caring adult they met at camp. Not every camper will necessarily be paired with a mentor, but for those who do, this program provides supervision and oversight. Volunteers must pass increased background checks and attend additional training. Visit reports are also required.

Studies have shown that mentoring makes a difference. Statistics vary on what percentage of the homeless and prison population are made up of former wards of the state, but now one disputes the fact that the percentage is significantly reduced when a caring mentor is involved. Youth are less likely to get involved in drugs and more likely to graduate high school and even go on to college. They are less likely to get involved with drugs. They make better career choices because mentors help them think about and plan for the future with hope.

Purposeful visits help the mentee grow in one of the following areas: Educational, Emotional, Physical, Social & Spiritual
